6ft Tall Grinch Journey

Having 3D printers has always been a fun way to create and build different things for myself. But this year as I started spinning up a YouTube website, I asked my kids what I should print as a Christmas decoration. This lead me to The Grinch from the original TV movie from 1966.

One of the first issues I had to determine was, is this print going outside? After going back and forth I decided that it would go outside. With that decision out of the way that lead me to filament type for outdoors. ABS or ASA filament, after going back and forth for a while I decided I wanted to play it safe and go with ASA and paint the print once it was ready for paint.

I looked at my small print farm and decided to attempt to enclose my Elegoo Neptune 4 Max to make sure there was no drafts hitting the print since that printer is a massive bed slinger. I built a huge overkill enclosure out of 1x2s and rolls of plastic, with a door on the front that was secured with tape to allow for easy access as needed. Needless to say, throughout the attempts to print on the massive 420mm x 420mm print bed the print would fail for various reasons. After wasting what seemed like months on getting the print to work on that printer, I saw my Bambulab X1C and resliced the entire print. It was only sitting at 30 pieces to fit on the X1C and I had managed to get the grinch to the height of 6 foot tall.
